Stoughton Sets New Safety Standard with 40 MPH Crash Test Success

March 19, 2026

Stoughton Trailers has elevated industry safety benchmarks by successfully completing the IIHS TOUGHGUARD® rear impact guard crash test at 40 MPH, exceeding the long‑standing 35‑mph standard. Conducted at Calspan’s independent testing facility, the challenging 30% overlap test showed “no passenger‑compartment intrusion” in the 2014 Honda Accord used in the evaluation, demonstrating the guard’s ability to manage 31% more kinetic energy at the higher speed.

Building on its history as one of the first manufacturers to earn IIHS TOUGHGUARD® status, Stoughton continues to make advanced rear impact protection standard on all dry van and refrigerated trailers. IIHS President David Harkey praised the achievement, noting Stoughton’s commitment to preventing underride injuries and supporting national road‑safety goals.
