Stoughton Fab Lab Students Design Trailer Prototypes to Educate New Stoughton Trailers Employees

February 24, 2016

Students working in the Stoughton High School Fab Lab are working with Stoughton Trailers to create model trailer prototypes that will help new employees better understand how the company's products are made.

The trailer was designed for Stoughton Trailers' onboarding program, in which new employees can practice assembling the parts to build a complete model trailer. Several of the trailer's key components are highlighted on the prototype.

The prototype is undergoing a few more tweaks before it's finalized, at which point Stoughton Trailers will place an order from the lab.

Stoughton High School's Fab Lab is an industrial technology center where the next generation of engineers and designers can experiment with 21st century machinery and tools to transform ideas through innovation and creativity. The school’s Fab Lab is one of few in the country to be housed in a high school and be part of the school curriculum. Students can create practically anything using the machinery, which includes a three-dimensional (3D) printer, a vinyl cutter, an Epilog laser cutter/engraver, a milling machine and a computer-guided router, among other tools. Students apply science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts during the creating process.

Stoughton Trailers is one of several local businesses that provides funding for Fab Lab programming, which is made available to the community as well.
